Our story
Pubs In The Sun started with a simple problem, and a pint that went from sunny to shady.
We found the Prince Arthur in Hoxton one sunny evening after work. Gorgeous terrace, cold pints, golden light at 5 pm. It instantly became our favourite spot.
A month later we headed back, same time, same table. But it was completely in shade. The sun had moved and the buildings blocked it. There must be a way to know this in advance, right?
So we built it! We created 3D sun simulations for every outdoor pub in London we could, updating throughout the day. First just to solve it for ourselves, then we realised everyone has this problem.
We created an iOS app and expanded to over 800 pubs across London. We added filters for beer gardens, rooftops, terraces and more, and started measuring the size of each outdoor area. Turns out people don't just want to know where to drink, they want to know when to go.
We launched our Android app, added a ChatGPT integration, and we're now tracking over 1,000 pubs across London. We add more every week and have plenty of new features coming to make finding a sunny pint even easier.
The aha moment
We simulated the Prince Arthur and finally saw what happened. Same pub, same time, completely different sunshine.
Prince Arthur, 5 pm in July
5 pm — bathed in sunshine.
Prince Arthur, 5 pm in August
5 pm — total shade.
